View of the Seine
This is one of the paintings that I recently completed for my winter exhibit at Latrobe Art Center in Latrobe, PA. The blue sky and gray clouds frame the Musee d'Orsay and the Pont Royal bridge. I suppose I should have named the painting "View from the Passerelle de Solferino" since that is the bridge that I took the reference photo from, but it's too late, I don't like to re-name paintings. Oil on 40" x 50" x 1 1/2" stretched canvas. SOLD.

Sidewalk Cafe in Paris
A painting of a sidewalk cafe in Paris on a sunny, cloudy day. I intentionally left part of this painting in a state that some would call unfinished. I often like the way the painting looks when I first sketch the composition on the canvas with the neutral paint before I start adding color. I've done these in the past, it is just hard for me to figure out what looks finished enough, or which parts to add color to and which ones to leave neutral. I really liked the sky that day, so I used color in the sky. Red was the most predominant color, as the buildings and the people's clothes were mostly neutral, so that determined what received color and what didn't. Oil on 14"h x 11"w stretched linen.
This is one of the thirty new paintings that I will have on exhibit at Gallery on 43rd Street in Pittsburgh, PA (Lawrenceville) from Friday, October 3rd through December 31st, 2014. Louvre Courtyard
A painting of the busy courtyard at the Louvre. I can't remember exactly where I was standing when I took the photo I used for reference, but this may actually be the Tuileries Gardens. Drinkin' and Smokin' in Paris
After visiting the Musee d'Orsay, my fellow travelers and I hiked up to Montmartre. We were getting a bit weary, since we only had a few pastries and hot chocolate for lunch, so we stopped at this cafe and shared a carafe of wine. Others apparently had the same idea, as the cafe was busy with others drinking and smoking. Oil on 14"h x 11"w stretched linen. SOLD

Sidewalk Cafe at Night in Paris
I painted this from the very last photo I took during my May trip to Paris. It is La Palette in the Saint Germain neighborhood. Seeing the people enjoy their meals and the company of their friends on the street-side tables made me want to extend my stay or at least have one more glass of wine. But instead I walked straight back to the room so I could wake up early enough to run (literally run) to the Musee de l'Orangerie in the morning for a quick visit before going to the airport. I had never visited that museum before and was not leaving Paris without seeing it, plus I didn't want the last day of my museum pass to go to waste. So sadly, and possibly for the first time in my life, I said "no" to wine. Oil on 14"h x 18"w stretched linen. SOLD.

Soft Boiled Egg
I discovered soft boiled eggs on my trip to Paris in May. I had always known about the little egg holders/stands, but thought they were just for the decorative presentation of a regular hard-boiled egg. I saw the waitress walk by with a pretty tray of colorful plates holding an egg in a stand and asked her to order me the same thing, mostly because I wanted to take a picture of it and felt weird taking pictures of other people's food. Then I found out how wonderful these eggs are, and learned how to make them upon my return home. I even have a stand, but it isn't quite as pretty as the French one in my painting. Oil on 6"h x 8"w Ray Mar panel. SOLD.

While I loved spending time in Paris with my fellow travelers, including my mom and a friend of mine, we separated for dinner one night and then I decided to take a walk afterwards. I feel that certain cities, especially Paris, require at least one lone walk to best absorb the atmosphere. Sometimes when you walk with others, you talk to them, go in directions you don't necessarily want to go, and are on a mission to find a certain destination. Or if you choose to meander with them, you still have to compromise on where to go. I chose to wander the lively streets and alleys of Saint Germain. Even if you are alone, you are not lonely there amid all the people eating, drinking and enjoying the good things in what I think is the best part of the city. Oil on 12"h x 9"w stretched linen. SOLD.

Sidewalk Cafe in Paris II
I painted this from a photo that I took in Paris in 2010, even though I have subject matter to paint from my trip this past May. Painting trees, vehicles and groups of people frightened me in the past, and this painting contains all three, so I finally got around to painting it now. There are a few others from the 2010 trip that I am currently working on to go with my current series of French subject matter.

Les Deux Magots II
Les Deux Magots of Paris in the afternoon. Patrons refuel for the day with coffee. It was definitely necessary for me that day, as we walked about eight miles, and I wasn't sure if I could last until dinner. When we were there, days were busy from about 8:00 am until past midnight, with dinner usually not taking place until 9:30. Next time I visit Paris, I will try to stay longer so I can see it at a more leisurely pace. I'll still drink coffee all day, though. SOLD.

Honfleur Boat Study II
This is a painting of what I consider the less chaotic side of Honfleur. There aren't quite as many sidewalk cafes and the boats are more uniform (at least they were on the weekend I visited.)
