I'm not sure if the man in the painting is a fisherman or not, but this is how I've always envisioned them, so that's what I'm calling him. He is waiting for a friend to return, probably from the super-crowded restroom (I had to wait in line forever because we thought someone was in there, but it turned out that the door was just stuck.)
