Book Stands in Paris

 

A lady peruses the books and magazines in the stands that line the promenade along the Seine River. The contents of the green stands are sometimes as eye catching as the architecture, probably because it is a tiny piece of the landscape that you can actually take home with you. This painting was completed using a photo that I took during my 2014 trip to Paris. I loved the fact that cafes were busy seemingly all day with people eating snacks and meals or simply drinking coffee. I had stopped here between museums for a brief coffee break. This is my favorite neighborhood in Paris. I love to wander the streets alone and absorb the atmosphere. When you walk with others, you have to compromise. Parisian Waiter

This was painted from a corner of a photo I took in Paris. I hadn't noticed until recently how the silver tray reflected the sun onto the waiter's face from underneath. That, combined with the action of him wiping the table, created an interesting composition. Oil on 14"h x 18" w stretched canvas. SOLD.
