Coffee Break in Provence

 

This is an unusual composition for me. While stopping for a caffeinated pick-me-up in the shade on a hot summer day in Aix en Provence, I snapped a picture of my drink. I always love the event that some European countries make of their coffee. I meant to take a picture of the coffee with the sugar and cookie packets that accompanied it, but also captured some of the background, which was a sunlit street. I decided to make that part of the painting, even though it is only on 8"h x 6"w stretched linen.

Coffee Cat

My Alfred likes to hang out on the kitchen countertop. He even eats his canned breakfast and dinner up there, away from Stella who always tries to steal his food. I painted this from a photo I took while preparing both of our breakfasts one morning. Oil on 6"h x 4"w stretched canvas. SOLD.

Cat with Coffee and Sunflower

This is a painting of my Stella with a cup of coffee. I meant to photograph still lifes of coffee with desserts and sunflowers, but Stella had to investigate, so I ended up photographing her as well. This is a pretty accurate depiction of her daily activities, as she normally sits three inches from my plate at dinner, waiting for a bite of food to fall off. I usually give her a little bite.

Turkish Coffee

I loved the presentation of this Turkish coffee at Cafe Imperial in Vienna, Austria. Just thinking about all the different variations of coffee in the city and the cozy cafes makes me want to book another trip there. Oil on 4" x 4" stretched canvas. Mocha Cappuccino Cupcake

Espresso for One

Though the name "espresso" indicates that the drink is consumed quickly, it is still worth the time to sit down and mindfully appreciate it. Unless you are in Italy where they sometimes charge more if you sit down. The cafe pictured above is in New York, where one can let the caffeine take effect before hitting the pavement. Oil on 12"h x 6"w x 1"d composite board. SOLD.

Coffee, Eggs and Butter

From the past few paintings I've uploaded, one can probably see that I love breakfast foods. To repay the chickens for providing nutrients to my diet, I only use free-range, cage-free eggs. I hope I don't offend any vegetarians, as I greatly appreciate the ability to meet one's nutritional needs without meat. However, I think if one must eat meat, the animals deserve a decent life since they help sustain ours. Just something I wanted to say... I love all animals, even if I do eat them!

Breakfast II

I had posted part of this painting last month... this is the entire composition. I was trying to make an omelette, and the egg missed the bowl. I was going to clean it up but liked how the light hit the egg and the slight contrast in texture between the egg white and the countertop, so I took a few photos first. SOLD.

Curious Cats

My cats, Alfred and Stella, were curious about my chocolate cupcake (stuffed with a cherry and cheesecake filling) and shot of brandy. Of course, it was not a snack suitable for cats, but I did let them have a little bit of milk from the creamer. Oil on 11"h x 14"w stretched linen. SOLD.
