After Dinner in Saint Germain
This is another one of the thirty new paintings that I will have on exhibit at Gallery on 43rd Street in Pittsburgh, PA (Lawrenceville) from Friday, October 3rd through December 31st, 2014. Click here to visit the website. The paintings were mostly inspired by my recent trip to France and will include interiors, sidewalk cafes, food, cityscapes and boats.
While I loved spending time in Paris with my fellow travelers, including my mom and a friend of mine, we separated for dinner one night and then I decided to take a walk afterwards. I feel that certain cities, especially Paris, require at least one lone walk to best absorb the atmosphere. Sometimes when you walk with others, you talk to them, go in directions you don't necessarily want to go, and are on a mission to find a certain destination. Or if you choose to meander with them, you still have to compromise on where to go. I chose to wander the lively streets and alleys of Saint Germain. Even if you are alone, you are not lonely there amid all the people eating, drinking and enjoying the good things in what I think is the best part of the city. Oil on 12"h x 9"w stretched linen. SOLD.

Sidewalk Cafe in Paris II
I painted this from a photo that I took in Paris in 2010, even though I have subject matter to paint from my trip this past May. Painting trees, vehicles and groups of people frightened me in the past, and this painting contains all three, so I finally got around to painting it now. There are a few others from the 2010 trip that I am currently working on to go with my current series of French subject matter.

After Lunch
A waiter clears a table after lunch at Le Train Bleu restaurant in Paris. My lunch was just getting started, as you can tell by the not yet filled wine glasses in the foreground. It was one of the more memorable lunches of my life, and I highly recommend the restaurant for anyone who visits Paris. Framed with a gold frame that matches the molding in the painting. If you are interested in this painting, please email me and I can get a picture of the frame for you. SOLD.

Les Deux Magots II
Les Deux Magots of Paris in the afternoon. Patrons refuel for the day with coffee. It was definitely necessary for me that day, as we walked about eight miles, and I wasn't sure if I could last until dinner. When we were there, days were busy from about 8:00 am until past midnight, with dinner usually not taking place until 9:30. Next time I visit Paris, I will try to stay longer so I can see it at a more leisurely pace. I'll still drink coffee all day, though. SOLD.

Honfleur Boat Study II
This is a painting of what I consider the less chaotic side of Honfleur. There aren't quite as many sidewalk cafes and the boats are more uniform (at least they were on the weekend I visited.) The buildings are a little shorter, so you can see the surrounding hills behind them. Oil on 8"h x 6"w cotton Ray Mar board. SOLD.

Trouville Town Study
This is the view from the bridge that links Deauville and Trouville, France. We stayed in Deauville a few weeks ago and found that we were able to walk to Trouville from there. When planning the trip, I wasn't sure how walkable it would be. Though it takes a while, especially when taking frequent picture-taking stops, it can be done. You can also rent bikes, which I think I may do next time. And there WILL be a next time, as three days was not enough to thoroughly explore these two towns in addition to Honfleur! I sadly didn't get to try the oysters from the market in Trouville, and need to go back just for that. Oil on 6"h x 8"w canvas board. SOLD.

Trouville Beach Study
This is one of the first paintings I've done from the new material gathered during my recent trip to France. I was inspired to visit Trouville by the paintings Monet did of these same buildings in the late 1800s. This painting shows the afternoon light. I have many more paintings of France to follow. Oil on 6"h x 8"w canvas board. SOLD.

Avalon Bay
This is the bay side of Avalon, New Jersey. During college, I was lucky to spend a summer in Sea Isle City. I didn't have a car back then, so I biked everywhere. From Sea Isle, it was about fifteen miles to Ocean City, about four to Avalon, and about eight to Stone Harbor. I didn't have to work until 3:00 or so in the afternoon, so I would spend the mornings either on the beach or exploring the neighboring towns. I loved that there was water everywhere. Now I'm tempted to go to the shore and hunt for a college job so I can spend another summer at the beach. Oil on 16"h x 20"w x 1 1/2" stretched canvas. SOLD.
