Almost Dusk in Manhattan

I'm not sure where I was when I took the reference photo for this painting, but I loved the contrast between the warm light of the setting sun and the cool concrete. Oil on 18"h x 14"w x 1 1/2" stretched linen. SOLD.

Dexter the Cat

Dexter is my grandmother's cat, and I'm pretty sure he is related to my late cat Oliver, as they have similar appearances and personalities. Gray and white cats are my favorite to paint because the light, shadows and reflections create interesting colors in their fur, and the gray helps you know that those aren't really colors, they're just reflections. Oil on 7"h x 5"w stretched linen. SOLD.

Along the Via di Belvedere

From the Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence you can see a winding wall going up the opposite hill, surrounded by olive groves. I wondered what was there, so I jogged up the hill one morning. Unfortunately, you can't really see over the high walls into the city or the olive groves, and the tall iron fences are sealed off so you can't see inside. I saw some pretty views of the wall's turrets and cypress trees, however. Oil on 7"h x 5"w stretched linen.

Wine and Cheesecake

If you can pair wine with cheese, you can pair wine with cheesecake! Oil on 5"h x 7"w stretched linen. SOLD.

Etsy Shop Re-opened

After a brief hiatus from selling on Etsy, I have decided to add some of my older paintings to my Etsy shop. These are paintings I've had for a while, and I have decided to discount them a little. Please click on the link below to view the paintings I have in my store. The painting in the featured post above is one of them... It is a painting I completed in early 2015. I plan to upload several more over the next few days. All of the paintings can be shipped within in a week.

Alley Near the Duomo

The cool colors near the Duomo in Florence create the feeling of mystery, and contrast with the warm facades of the alley buildings. The 1 1/2" gallery wrapped edges of the piece are painted raw umber and the work comes ready to hang. Oil on 18"h x 24" stretched linen.

Misty Morning in Tuscany

This is a view from the top of Piazza Michelangelo in Florence on a misty fall morning. Not only are the clouds misty, but the fluffy leaves of the olive trees in the foreground also create the same effect. Oil on 12"h x 16"w stretched linen.

Saturday in Brooklyn

This is a busy corner in Brooklyn, as hoards of people are lined up waiting to order pizza from Grimaldi's. From this venue, you can see the silhouettes of Manhattan buildings in the distance. Oil on 18'h x 24"w stretched linen. SOLD.

Coffee, Eggs and Butter

From the past few paintings I've uploaded, one can probably see that I love breakfast foods. To repay the chickens for providing nutrients to my diet, I only use free-range, cage-free eggs. I hope I don't offend any vegetarians, as I greatly appreciate the ability to meet one's nutritional needs without meat. However, I think if one must eat meat, the animals deserve a decent life since they help sustain ours. Just something I wanted to say... I love all animals, even if I do eat them!

Taking Time to Smell the Zinnias

My mom's cats like to hang out on the kitchen counter to signal that they want food. Here they are taking a break from begging to smell the zinnias from her garden. Oil on 12"h x 12" stretched linen. SOLD.

Sending a Text

This is a painting of my cousin's girlfriend checking her phone before one of our dinners. I feel grateful that my family puts up with dinner sometimes turning into a photo shoot for artistic subject matter. I still socialize, though... I can talk and take pictures at the same time! Unfortunately I sometimes prevent people from eating right away if I see a potential painting. Oil on 14"h x 11"w x 1 1/2" stretched linen. This is one of the paintings in my exhibit at Gallery on 43rd Street in Pittsburgh, PA.

Dinner Time in Greenwich Village

It is late afternoon in Greenwich Village. The weather is a bit cool as people walk looking for dinner, but the aromas coming from restaurants and pizzerias help take one's mind off the chilly air. Oil on 16"H X 20"W X 1 1/2" stretched linen. SOLD.

Sunflowers

I was surprised to see giant sunflowers at our local farmers' market this summer, so I had to scoop some up for a still life. This was my first encounter with teddy-bear sunflowers, they really were as cute and fluffy as a teddy-bear. Oil on 20"h x 16"w Gessoboard. SOLD.

Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge

My husband and I visited New York City in April. We have been there several times, yet still always find something new to see. For the first time ever, we saw and walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and visited the Dumbo area. I didn't realize you had to walk across the top level of the bridge, and it was a little scary to look down at times! I was glad we did it, though. Oil on 16"h x 20"w x 1 1/2"d stretched linen. SOLD.

Breakfast II

I had posted part of this painting last month... this is the entire composition. I was trying to make an omelette, and the egg missed the bowl. I was going to clean it up but liked how the light hit the egg and the slight contrast in texture between the egg white and the countertop, so I took a few photos first. SOLD.

Dessert

This cheesecake with strawberries was almost too pretty to eat! But I needed something to go with my wine. Oil on 12"h x 12"w stretched linen. You can view this painting and many others at my current exhibit at Gallery on 43rd Street in Pittsburgh, PA. SOLD.

Misty Morning in Indiana

For anyone who is familiar with Indiana, PA, this is the view from the top of Water Street looking toward town. I painted this from a photo I took on a cold morning last winter. I liked the misty atmosphere and the smoke coming from the chimneys. Oil on 11"h x 14"w stretched linen. Framed with gold plein air style frame. SOLD.

Night Time in Shadyside

This painting is perfect for this time of year. It is a mysterious looking evening in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh. It isn't meant to be a Halloween painting, but it definitely conveys the atmosphere of the season. Oil on 9"h x 12"w x 1" stretched linen. Available at Gallery on 43rd Street, Pittsburgh, PA.

Breakfast

This is a painting of my mischievous cat, Alfred, trying to steal my breakfast from the kitchen countertop. Oil on 11"h x 14"w x 1"d stretched linen.

This is one of the paintings that will be at my show of new work at Gallery on 43rd Street in Pittsburgh, PA. The exhibit runs from November 4 - December 31, 2016. This collection of work mostly revolves around the idea of home.  Home can be anywhere including my house, town, country, family homes and anywhere in the world where I feel peace.  Included in this collection are paintings inspired by Pittsburgh, New York City, Paris and Tuscany. SOLD.

Parisian Waiter

This was painted from a corner of a photo I took in Paris. I hadn't noticed until recently how the silver tray reflected the sun onto the waiter's face from underneath. That, combined with the action of him wiping the table, created an interesting composition. Oil on 14"h x 18" w stretched canvas. SOLD.

Tuscan Landscape

This was the view from one of the vineyards in Tuscany. I have no idea where, though. My husband and I took a bus tour from Florence last year, which took us to Sienna, San Gimignano, another small fortress town and to a winery about an hour from Florence. The tour was a whirlwind, so we didn't have time to explore the grounds of the winery. Just before dusk, between rounds of wine samples, I sneaked from the wine lecture to snap the reference photo for this painting.

Piazza Della Republica

Street sweepers clean the stone streets of Florence in the mornings, giving the city a fresh feeling at the start of the day. This is the newly cleaned Piazza Della Republica. Oil on 20"h x 24"w x 1 1/2" stretched linen.

Corner Bistro in the West Village

This is a building that houses a wonderful restaurant in the West Village of NYC. The name of the restaurant is Tartine. My husband was kind enough to pose for me at one of the tables on the sidewalk.

This was one of the paintings I exhibited at Greensburg Art Center in Greensburg, PA. The show was called "115 Years of Painting: Four Artists' Collective Years of Painting." It showcased my recent paintings as well as work by Jolene Joyner, Barbara Kern-Bush and Doreen Currie. The show was in the gallery until October 22, 2016.

As of October 23rd, the show in Greensburg has ended. This painting is now available on UGallery. SOLD.

Busy Street in Rome

The streets of Rome are chaotic as pedestrians and drivers alike navigate the city. The storefronts along streets such as this one offer many temptations in the form of coffee, crostini, pastries, and clothing shops. Everyone is in a hurry to see as many of these places as possible.

This oil painting is on 24"h x 30"w x 1 1/2" stretched canvas. The edges are painted raw umber, and it is ready to hang. SOLD.

Washington Square Park at Dusk

It was a cool March evening in Washington Square Park when I took the reference photo for this painting. There weren't many people around except for a few people who passed by with their dogs. Oil on 18"h x 24"w x 1 1/2" stretched linen. SOLD.

Unpredictable Weather in the Piazza Navona

The weather was unpredictable when we took a day trip to Rome from Florence last year, and we didn't have an umbrella. So, we just ordered another espresso at an outdoor cafe in Piazza Navona and waited for the rain to stop. It passed pretty quickly. The dramatic weather created interesting reflections on the wet cobblestones and created a rainbow for us to see by the time we reached the Vatican. SOLD,

Afternoon in Greenwich Village

As dinner time approaches, the streets of New York's Greenwich Village start to liven up even more . I visited in April during a warm, sunny weekend and enjoyed wandering the sunny streets at happy hour, stopping here and there for coffee or a glass of wine. Oil on 12"h x 18"w stretched linen. SOLD.

View of the Ponte Santa Trinita

The Ponte Santa Trinita bridge in Florence, Italy, is bathed in the warm morning sunlight. This was painted from a photo I took during one of my morning jogs along the river. I would wake up as early as possible to catch the dramatic light on the domed buildings. This was difficult because of the long nights of wine drinking, but the plentiful espresso bars all over the city helped me accomplish my goals! SOLD.
