I'm not sure where the last 1.5 years went.

It has been quite a while since I posted to this blog. Possibly because it seems that people don't read blogs anymore. Am I right? I always liked maintaining it as a complete archive of my work. My website changes all the time, and older work is often removed. This site is a complete record of my paintings since 2007. I had a bit of a computer crash in mid 2025, so I lost many images from late '24 to mid '25. This post shows some of the paintings I completed last year. To purchase my work, I always recommend going to the UGallery website or my website jonellesummerfield.com. I hope to do a better job of maintaining my blog going forward. I plan to post every day going forward. Hopefully I do a better job of that than I have of studying Spanish on Duo Lingo.

Cassis Marina

Since this will be visible on a Sunday, I thought I'd share the perfect Sunday destination, which is a painting of Cassis, France. It is a short train ride from Marseille, France for a day trip, though I recommend staying there to see it at all hours of the day. The town smells like the sea, cooked seafood, coffee, and wine. You will want to try all of those things while there in addition to some lavender glace. From the town center, you can walk to the hidden calanques or just hang out at the well-populated beach in town. Oil on 24"h x 30"w stretched linen. SOLD.

Portland Maine Harbor

I was excited to have had some paintings accepted for display at the Roux & Cyr International Fine Art Gallery in Portland, Maine, so I took a trip there to gather some subject matter. I take my bike along on New England trips because it is much easier to stop when I see a photo opportunity, and it is much easier and cheaper to park than a car. During my trip, I biked around the Old Port for an entire morning, and then I took a ferry to Peaks Island for the afternoon. It was a refreshing day, especially after driving so far to get there. I painted this picture while operating my booth at the Westmoreland Heritage Festival in Greensburg, PA. I normally complete paintings over two or more sittings, but I liked the fresh, spontaneous quality of the colors and brushstrokes, so I considered it finished in one afternoon.

Baltimore Boats

We visited Baltimore last autumn and had a great time exploring the Inner Harbor and The Walters Art Museum. There are great meals and sights to be had in the city. Oil on 16"h x 12"w stretched canvas.

Rockport Marina

I was fortunate enough to take two trips to Massachusetts this summer and made sure to stop in Rockport both times. The first trip was with my husband when I acquired the photo for this painting. The famous Motif No. 1 building is in the background and has been the star of many paintings by many artists. For me, the boats took the main stage. There were rarely ever people on the boats except for weekend nights when locals were getting ready to relax after a week of work. Oil on 24"h x 18" w stretched linen.

Honfleur Cafes

Oil on 24" x 30" stretched canvas. Available at Christine Frechard Gallery until October 11th during the "Summertime" exhibit.

The painting was inspired by the peaceful cafe scene in Honfleur, France. The air is still crisp on a May morning before the town becomes lively with tourists. SOLD.

Morning in Honfleur

It was a sunny spring morning in Honfleur with a bit of haze in the hills. I was always inspired by the paintings of Eugene Boudin, so my mom, a friend, and I stayed in Deauville, and took day trips to Honfleur and Trouville from there. I was able to see the beaches and marinas that inspired both Boudin's and Monet's paintings. Honfleur is peaceful in the mornings while shopkeepers and artists set up their shops for the day. After circling the marina a couple of times to see the buildings and boats from all angles, my mom and I stopped for an espresso at a dock-side cafe, then got lost in the town's alleyways. Oil on 30"h x 40"w stretched canvas. SOLD.

Honfleur Marina

Boats linger in the Honfleur marina anticipating a full day of sailing. The sailors are probably sitting at one of the cafes drinking espresso. This painting is on a 28"h x 22"w x 1 1/2"d gallery wrapped canvas with finished raw umber-colored edges. It comes ready to hang.

This is one of seventeen paintings that I will have at the Affordable Art Fair in New York City! My work will be in the UGallery booth (booth 1.2) If you are in New York from March 25 - 29, please stop in to see the collection! SOLD.
